Diverse experience and perspective are key to human innovation. Engineers and Architects are leaders in innovation, and as such rely on the different people that enter the profession. Professionals of all backgrounds can only do their best work when feeling belonging to the overall community. This is where Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) become fundamental to the future of engineering and architecture.

Marcie Cochrane (she/her), P.Eng., MBA - 30 by 30 Coordinator, Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

Marcie Cochrane, P.Eng., is an engineering sector leader with strengths in
  • project management and delivery
  • diversity and inclusion research
  • strategic planning, and
  • leadership
She is passionate about leading others to take action and catalyzing change within organizations and industries. From Kamloops, BC, Marcie serves in two roles: the 30 by 30 Coordinator for Engineers and Geoscientists BC, and a consultant supporting engineering sector organizations, including the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of BC (ACEC-BC). Her expertise spans:
  • equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) programs
  • leadership programs, and
  • strategic planning
Her MBA research project and experience working in the sector ground her EDI work within engineering. Her MBA research examined the rate women stay in engineering in British Columbia. After fifteen years practising engineering, Marcie has worked in many different sectors including consulting, public sector, and private industry. Within these sectors she has worked with and led multi-disciplinary project teams in technical and leadership roles to deliver a range of projects:
  • high voltage underground transmission
  • substations
  • residential distribution systems
  • energy management programs, and
  • product innovation for power system management and monitoring
Marcie holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University. Marcie received the Chancellor’s Award (2019) for highest academic excellence from the Royal Roads School of Business and was nominated for the Governor General’s Gold Medal for Top Masters Level Student Thesis (2018) for her research on the retention of women in engineering.

Ailene Lim, Acting Director, Programs and Professional Development - Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

As the Acting Director of Programs and Professional Development, Ailene Lim is responsible for strategizing, planning, and directing the development and administration of programs for Engineers and Geoscientists BC. Her portfolio includes:
  • continuing education
  • annual conference
  • mentoring
  • branches
  • career awareness
  • member affinity services
